நெய் அப்பம் / Nei Appam

Nei Appam is offered to Lord Ganesha on "Vinayakar Chaturthi Day"



Ingredients
  • Wheat flour - 1 cup
  • Rice flour - 1/2 cup
  • Thick coconut milk - 3/4 cup
  • Jaggery - 3/4 cup
  • Banana - 1
  • Elachi powder - a pinch
  • Ghee - as needed
Method
  • Take jaggery in a thick kadai and pour 1/4 cup of water
  • Heat the kadai and allow the jaggery to dissolve in water.Switch off the stove and filter the jaggery water to discard the impurities

  • In a mixing bowl add mashed banana, wheat flour and rice flour
  • Pour jaggery extract and coconut milk.Add a pinch of elachi powder and mix well to form a thick batter like dosa
  • Leave it for half an hour
  • Heat a paniyaram mold over the gas stove.Drop 2 teaspoons of ghee in each and every mould
  • Carefully pour the appam batter using a small ladle 
  • After 2 minutes you will notice small bubbles appearing.Carefully flip it on to the other side and our 1 more teaspoon of ghee again in each and every mold
  • Cook for another 1 minute in low flame
  • Ensure to fry them dark
  • You may directly fry it in oil also
