Ompodi / Omapodi / Plain Sev

This used to be my favorite snacks during my childhood days.My sons also love it and Iam happy to share this recipe with you all


Ingredients
  • Besan flour / Kadalai maavu - 1 cup
  • Rice flour - 1/4 cup
  • Ajwain / Omam powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Butter - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Oil - deep frying
Method
  • Heat oil in a deep bottomed kadai
  • Meanwhile take all the mentioned ingredients in a bowl and mix well with hands
  • Add water little by little and make a sticky dough
  • Fit the ompodi achu in the squeezing machine / kuzhal ie the one with small round hoes.See the pic
  • Grease the inner portion of squeezing machine / kuzhal
  • Fill it dough and press it / squeeze it in a circular motion into the hot oil
  • Allow the bubbles to subside and flip it over the other side
  • Take it out after 2 minutes
  • Drain it under a colander
  • Once cooled crush the omapodi into small pieces and store it in an airtight container
