Ingredients
- Bajra / Kambu idly batter - 3 laddles
- Onion - 1 (finely chopped)
- Green chilly - 1 or 2 (finely chopped)
- Oil - 1 teaspoon for tadka + little for greasing paniyaram molds
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - very little
You may also add grated carrot and beetroot
Method
Step 1 - Preparing Paniyaram Batter
- Heat oil in a small kadai and splutter mustard seeds
- Throw in green chillies and chopped onions.Fry till they become golden brown
- Add it to the bajra idly batter.Put little salt and mix well
Step 2 - Making Paniyarams
- Grease paniyaram molds/pan with oil.You may use ghee while doing it for kids
- Pour batter on each and every mold using a small ladle.Do it in clockwise
- Close it with the lid given and allow it to get cooked in medium flame
- After 3 minutes (approximately) flip carefully to the other side.You may use a blunt knife for this purpose
- It should come out easily.If the batter sticks to the knife cook it for some more time
- Now the upper portion will have a golden brown crust as seen in the picture
- Cook on the other side too.No need to close it with the lid
- Once done take it out carefully.Again it should come out easily (that's the thumb rule)
Kambu Paniyarams are ready.Serve it with chutney
