Dhal Makini


An apt side dish for Phulkas and Jeera rice

Ingredients
Cooker
  • White Peas - 1 cup
Powders
  • Samba Rava / Dalia - 1 tablespoon
  • Chilly Powder - 1 1/2 teaspoons
  • Jeera Powder - 3/4 teaspoon
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander Powder - 3/4 teaspoon
  • Salt- as needed
Saute
  • Butter - 1 teaspoon
  • Onions - 2 (if it is medium sized)
  • Tomato - 2
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Coriander leaves - for topping
Method
Part 1
  • Wash white peas well.Soak it over night (add water just an inch above the peas)
  • Do not discard water
  • Pressure cook with the same water for 5 whistles or even more.Keep it aside
Part 2 - Dry Roast
  • In a pan first roast rava in medium flame till nice aroma comes
  • Then simmer the flame add jeera powder followed by garam masala and chilly powders.Swirl it once
  • Switch off the stove then add coriander powder.Mix well
  • Allow it to cool
Part 3
  • Mix the roasted powders (part 2) with little water and add it to the cooked white peas
  • Blend it well in simmer flame.
Part 4
  • Melt butter.Saute onions till brown.Put curry leaves
  • Add tomatoes and fry till the raw smell disppears
Part 5
  • Mix part 3 with part 4 and put salt
  • Boil once
Part 6
  • Switch off the stove and garnish with coriander leaves



Top it with butter before serving
