I have never tried Parota because the process is very tedious Now I should say big thanks to Ms.Revathi Shanmugam who demonstrated a simplified method
I modified the recipe here and there
Ingredients
- Wheat - 1 cup
- Kasuri Methi - 1 tablespoon
- Chilly Powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - as required
- Water - as required
- Whaet flour - little for dusting
- Butter - little (I used Trans Fat free butter)
- Mix all the dry ingredients together first
- Add water little by little and make a soft dough
- Make small balls from the dough
- Take a small ball and flatten it
- Spread little butter over it and sprinkle little wheat flour
- Fold it alternatively like saree pleats
- Encircle it (like hair bun)
- Now flatten it once more
- Heat a Tava and put the parota in it
- Cook well on both the sides. No need to add oil
Note
In Original version
- Addition of 2 tablespoons of ghee while kneading the dough
- Does not include chilly powder while kneading
- Uses maida flour for dusting
- Ghee / Oil is spread over the flattened dough I used butter here
I too haven't tried parota yet...this looks really easy and quite healthy too...will have to try soon
