Beans Parupu Usili

Popular "South Indian" recipe


Ingredients
  • Beans - 1/2 kg (finely chopped)

Items for Soaking
  • Channa Dhal - 2 fistfuls
  • Toor Dhal - 1 fistful
  • Red Chillies - 4 or as required
  • Cumin seeds / jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
Seasoning
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Hing - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - little
Salt - as needed

Method
Step 1- Soaking and Grinding
  • Wash and soak channa dhal and toor dhal for 2 hours
  • Also soak red chillies and ginger along with the dhal(s)
  • Drain water (use it for making rasam) and grind it into a coarse paste

 Step 2 - Steaming
  • Steam dhal and beans separately  for 15 minutes.Allow dhal to cool and crumble it

Step 3 - Beans Parupu Usili
  • Heat little oil in a kadai and season the ingredients mentioned under "Seasoning"
  • Add crumbled dhal mixture (parupu usili) and saute for sometime in low flame.Also add salt required for parupu usili at this stage
  • You will notice change in colour
  • Add the cooked beans and sprinkle little salt (required for beans).Swirl it once
  • Keep it closed for 2 - 3 minutes in a simmer flame
  • Beans Parupu Usili is ready
Serve it as a side dish with Vatha Kuzhambu rice / Pacha Mor Kuzhambu RiceSambar rice
