Sprouts Patties

Learnt this interesting snack item from a TV show.I twisted it here and there. It was demonstrated with sprouted green gram but I have tried with mixed sprouts too.And it was shown as a deep fried snack but I did shallow frying with very little oil

Ingredients
  • Sprouted green gram or mixed sprouts - 1/12 cups
  • Potatoes - 2 (medium sized)
  • Oats powder - 1/2 cup (powder the oats in a mixer)
  • Ginger chilly paste : Grind 2 green chillies with little ginger.Use a teaspoon of water while grinding
  • Salt - as required
  • Onion - 1 (medium sized sized finely chopped)
  • Finely chopped corriander leaves - little (optional)
Method
Step 1 : Pressure cooking potatoes and sprouts
  • Pressure cook potatoes for 3 whistles.Once done take it out and cool.Remove the skin and mash them
  • Also pressure cook the sprouts for 3 whistles. If it is moong dhal sprouts leave it for 2 whistles.Sprouts should be half cooked only (but the original version showed fully cooked sprouts)
  • Take it out and drain the excess water.Allow it to cool
  • Now grind the sprouts in a mixer

Step 2 : Dough mixing
  • In a wide bowl take the mashed potatoes and sprouts together
  • Put  finely chopped onions, coriander leaves, ginger chilly paste and salt.Mix them well with your fingers
  • Add oats powder little by little and knead the dough
  • Water is not at all required while preparing the dough

Step 3 : Making Patties
  • Take out small balls from the dough
  • Flatten a ball either on your palms or make use of a small round shaped lid or shape it as per your desire
  • Meanwhile heat a tawa
  • Coat a drop of oil or ghee (especially for kids) on each side of the shaped dough
  • Place them on the heated tawa and cook well on both the sides
  • A golden brown crust will be formed on both the sides

Hot Patties are ready.Serve it with Ketchup

Note
  • You can also deep fry the patties as mentioned earlier
  • If you are giving to kids avoid ginger chilly paste
  • Also try adding grated carrot to it
