தட்டை / Thattai / Nippattu

This is a popular and easy to do snack for "Krishna Jayanthi"...It can be served as tea time munchies too


Also look out for Chakodi / Ring Murukku recipe using the same ingredients

Ingredients
  • Rice flour - 2 cups
  • Roasted bengal gram flour / potukadalai maavu - 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chilly powder - 1 teaspoon or more
  • Hing - little
  • Sesame seeds /white ellu - 1 teaspoon
  • Soaked channa dhal / kadalai parupu - handful
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Butter - 25 g / 4 tablespoons
  • Coriander and curry leaves - little
  • Water - as needed
Method
Step 1 - Making dough
  • Melt butter in a sauce pan
  • Take rice flour, roasted gram flour, ellu, hing, chilly powder and salt in a broad basin
  • Add melted butter and chopped coriander / curry leaves to it.Put soaked channa dhal in it
  • Add water little by little to form a smooth dough

Step 2 - Thattais
  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan
  • Spread a muslin cloth / zip lock cover on your counter top
  • Take small lemon sized balls and flatted each of them into a thin disc using your greased palm
  • Drop the flattened discs / nippattu into the heated oil carefully
  • Fry well on both the sides / sizzling sound should subside
  • Take it out carefully using a perforated ladle

Hot crispy thattais are ready.You can store upto one month in an air tight container
