வெல்ல சீடை / Vella Seedai / Vella Cheedai / Sweet Seedai

This is an accompanied naivedhyam item for Uppu Seedai on Krishna Jayanthi festival.Infact Krishna Jayanthi is not complete without these items

Ingredients
  • Rice flour - 4 measures / 1 measure (I used store bought only)
  • Urad dhal flour - 1 measure / 1/4 measure
  • Jaggery - 3 - 4 measures / 1 measure
  • Butter - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt -1 pinch
  • Elachi powder - a pinch
  • Oil - deep fry
Method
Step 1 - Dry roasting and sieving
  • Dry fry rice flour till it is hot to touch or take a small portion and check whether you can draw kolam with it
  • Cool and sieve the rice flour
  • Sieve urad dhal flour as well
Step 2 - Jaggery Syrup and Dough
  • Take jaggery in a pan add / sprinkle little water.Heat it and filter it
  • Put it back in the pan and boil again
  • Add roasted and sieved flours and give a quick stir
  • Switch off the stove and keep stirring it till it forms a smooth dough
  • Cool and knead with butter

Step 3 - Vella Cheedai / Seedai
  • Grease your palm with oil and make very small balls.Pierce each and every ball lightly with a needle.This is to ensure that seedai doesnt burst will making it.Keep the balls on a paper to absorb excess moisture
  • Carefully drop the seedai balls into hot oil and fry the balls till it changes to dark brown colour.Make sure it is not burnt
  • Place it in a tissue paper / colander to drain excess oil

Offer it to Lord Krishna along with Uppu Seedai
