Part 1 - Preparation
- Dalia / Samba Godhumai Rava - 1 1 /2 cups
- Green Gram Dhal - 1/2 cup
Part 2 - Tadka and Saute
- Oil - 1 tablespoon
- Cumin seeds / Jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
- Bay leaf - 1
- Cinnamon stick - small peice
- Green Chilly - 3 nos
- Small onions - 10 nos
- Potato - 1 (cut into fine cubes)
- Carrot - 1 or 2 (cut into small cubes)
- Kashmiri Chilly Powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 1/2 teaspoons
- Turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
Part 3 - Tamarind Extract
- Tamarind - 1 small piece
- Water - 1/2 cup
Soak tamarind in water for 30 minutes,Squeeze the tamarind and extract the water
Part 4 - Seasoning
- Ghee / Oil - 1 teaspoon
- Curry leaves - little
- Small onions - 4 or 5
Method
Step 1 - Preparation
- Soak green gram dhal in little water fora bout 30 minutes
- Dry fry dalia for 10 minutes
Step 2 - Tadka and Saute
- In a kadai heat oil and splutter jeera
- Add bay leaf and cinnamon stick
- Saute small onions with a pinch of salt
- Add potatoes and carrot .Swirl it once
- Put soaked green gram dhal (along with the soaked water)
- Pour 3 cups of water and the tamarind extract.Put salt and boil it
- Add roasted dalia and spice powders.Mix it well
Step 3- Pressure Cooking
- Transfer the contents to a pressure cooker and cook it for 3 whistles
- In a separate kadai heat oil and season with small onions and curry leaves
- Pour it over the cooked khichadi and mix well
Step 4 - Serving
- Hot Dalia Khichadi is ready.Serve it with Khatta Metta Mango Kadi
