Andhra Special Mamidu Pappu / Mango dhall

Ingredients
Pressure Cooker Items
  • Raw mango - 1
  • Toor dhall - 1 cup
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Oil - little
  • Water - 2 1/2 cups
Seasoning
  • Oil - 2 teaspoons
  • Mustard - 1 teaspoon
  • Urad dhall - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Methi seeds - 3/4 teaspoons
  • Hing - little
  • Curry leaves - little
  • Green chillies - 4 (slited)
  • Red Chillies - 2
Others
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Jaggery - little (optional)
Method
  • Cut mango into small cubes and pressure cook along with the other mentioned items for 4 whistles

  •  In a kadai heat oil and temper the given items
  • Add cooked toor dhall and mango to it with little water.
  • Add salt and give it a boil.
  • Add jaggery towards the end.Jaggery will take off the sourness from the mango
  • Garnish with coriander leaves
  • Mamidu Pappu is ready.Mix with hot rice and serve
Variations
  • Can also saute 2 pods of garlic and 1 chopped onions and then add cooked toor dhall and mango
  • Can add sugar instead of jaggery which will take away the sourness
