I normally do this pulav when no veggies are available
- Rice - 2 cups
- Tomato - 6 (finely chopped)
- Onion - 1 (finely chopped)
- Peas - handful (optional only)
- Turmeric - a pinch
- Salt - 2 teaspoons
Seasoning
- Oil - 1 tablespoon
- Jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cloves - 2
- Pattai / cinnamon stick - 1 small piece
- Elachi - 3
- Bay leaf - 1
- Green Chillies - 5 (slited)
- Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 teaspoon or more
Method
- Soak rice in water for about 10 minutes
- In a pan heat oil and season with jeera first.When it splutters add all other items one by one given under seasoning
- Fry onions in it till translucent
- Add tomatoes with little turmeric and fry for for sometime
- Also stir fry peas in it
- Now grease oil in an electrical rice cooker pan and add the above mixture and drained rice
- Pour 4 cups of water and add salt
- Cook till it is done
- If cooking in a pressure cooker dry fry the rice and cook for 2 whistles
- Serve it with chips/ hot Potato Fry
Variations
- Can also cook in coconut milk
- Can also add 1/2 bunch of mint and coriander leaves
