Tomato Pulav

I normally do this pulav when no veggies are available

Ingredients

  • Rice - 2 cups
  • Tomato - 6 (finely chopped)
  • Onion - 1 (finely chopped)
  • Peas - handful (optional only)
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Salt - 2 teaspoons

Seasoning

  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cloves - 2
  • Pattai / cinnamon stick  - 1 small piece
  • Elachi - 3
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Green Chillies - 5 (slited)
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 teaspoon or more
Method
  • Soak rice in water for about 10 minutes
  • In a pan heat oil and season with jeera first.When it splutters add all other items one by one given under seasoning
  • Fry onions in it till translucent
  • Add tomatoes with little turmeric and fry for for sometime
  • Also stir fry peas in it
  • Now grease oil in an electrical rice cooker pan and add the above mixture and drained rice
  • Pour 4 cups of water and add salt
  • Cook till it is done
  • If cooking in a pressure cooker dry fry the rice and cook for 2 whistles
Variations
  • Can also cook in coconut milk
  • Can also add 1/2 bunch of mint and coriander leaves
