Dondakai Pachadi

Popular in Andhra cusines.Very good side dish for Idly and Dosas


Ingredients
  • Dondakai / Kovakai  - 15 nos
  • Red chillies - 3
  • Onion - 1 finely chopped
  • Green chillies -1
  • Garlic pods -  5
  • Hing - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Tamarind - small marble ball sized
  • Coriander leaves -handful
  • Coconut scrapings - 2 tablespoons or more (optional)
  • Salt - as needed
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
Method
  • Cut the vegetable into small pieces
  • Heat oil.Fry red chillies
  • Saute onions till brown.Add green chillies and garlic pods.Fry till raw smell goes
  • Put tamarind piece.Add chopped vegetables.Cook well till the veggies become soft
  • Add coriander leaves.Swirl it once
  • Switch off the stove.Add hing and salt.Mix well
  • Allow it to cool
  • Grind coconut in the mixer first.Then add the fried contents and grind it coarsely
  • Do not add water while grinding
  • Take off the chutney from the mixer using spatula
  • Store it in clean sterile bottle.You can refrigerate it for a week
