Dondakaya / Kovakkai Fry Version 3

This is similar to Kovakkai Fry Version 1.Try this also

Ingredients
Part 1 - Seasoning
  • Refined oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Channa dhal and Urad dhal - 1/2 teaspoon each

Part 2 - Saute and fry
  • Onion - 2 nos (finely chopped)
  • Tomato - 2 nos (finely chopped)
  • Dondakaya / Kovakkai - 1/2 kg
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Chilly powder / Pickle Powder - 2 teaspoons or more
  • Turmeric - 1 pinch
  • Hing - a pinch

Method
  • Heat oil in a kadai and season with mustard, channa dhal and urad dhal
  • Saute onions with a pinch of salt
  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook till it is soft and the raw smell goes

  • Now add the dondakaya (chopped lengthwise) and put chilly powder, salt and turmeric.Spray hing also
  • Mix well and allow it to cook on medium flame till done.Keep it closed.Stir once in 5 minutes
  • Once done switch off the stove and keep it closed for sometime before serving

Now Dondakaya / Kovakkai Fry is ready.Serve with Channa Dhal Coconut Rasam / Curd Rice
