Mango Dhal

This is a simple and a tangy recipe.It can be mixed with hot rice or served as a side dish for idly, dosa and pongal.It goes well with Curd Rice too

Ingredients
Part 1 - Seasoning 
  • Oil - 2 teaspoons
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Methi seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - little
  • Green chillies - 2 or 3 finely chopped
Part 2 - Saute
  • Onion - 1 finely chopped
  • Mango - 2 medium sized (chopped into cubes)
Part 3 - Pressure cooker
  • Toor dhal - 1/4 cup
  • Hing - little
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Water - to immerse the contents
  • Salt - 3/4 teaspoon
Part 4 - Garnish
  • Coconut pieces - 1/2 cup (grind it into a smooth paste)
Method
Step 1 - Seasoning and saute
  • Heat oil in a kadai / pressure pan.Season with the items mentioned "Part 1"
  • Saute onions and green chillies with a pinch of salt
  • Put raw mango pieces and swirl it once
Step 2 - Pressure cooking
  • Transfer this into a vessel that can be accommodated in pressure cooker
  • Pour water to immerse the contents.Add salt, turmeric and hing.Mix well
  • Pressure cook for 3 whistles
Step 3 - Mango Dhal
  • Transfer the cooked mango and dhal to a kadai.Add coconut paste.Just boil it once

Now Mango Dhal is ready.It goes well with Arisi Upma too
