What is Mukkani? "Mu" means number "three" in "tamil" and" kani" means" fruit".So Mukkani means three fruits - not any three fruits. Its Maa (Mango), Palaa (Jack fruit) and Vaazhai (Banana)
I saw a Cookery Show in Tamil recently in which they demonstrated this recipe. But I made two variations
Part 2 - Millet Sev / Vermicelli
I saw a Cookery Show in Tamil recently in which they demonstrated this recipe. But I made two variations
- Incorporated "Millet Vermicelli" instead of falooda sev / normal semiya
- Ice cream is added in the original recipe but I skipped it
Once the preparations are done its very simple and quick cooling dessert.Again as I say use full cream milk for kids and skimmed milk for adults
Ingredients
Part 1 - Fruits
- Mango - 3 nos (I used Rasaalu variety which is small in size)
- Jack fruit flesh - 10 nos
- Banana - 3 nos
Part 2 - Millet Sev / Vermicelli
- Millet Semiya / Vermicelli / Sev - 1/2 cup
- Milk - to cook the sev
- Raw sugar / unrefined cane sugar - 2 teaspoons (optional)
Part 3 - Others
- Sabja seeds / Basil seeds - 2 teaspoons
- Chilled milk - as required (use full cream for kids and skimmed milk for adults)
- Raw sugar / unrefined cane sugar - as required
- Saffron strands - little (soaked in milk)
Method
Step 1 - Soaking
- Soak sabja / basil seeds for about 10 minutes
- Also soak millet sev for about 5 minutes and drain it
Step 2 - Fruit puree
- Peel mango skin and chop into cubes.Run it in a mixer
- Cut jack fruit flesh into small pieces and grind it in a mixer
- Peel banana and cut it small pieces and grind it into a smooth puree
Pls Note: Wash your mixer jar before grinding each fruit
Step 3 - Cooking Millet Sev
- Pour milk to the drained sev.Add raw sugar and cook till it is soft.Add more milk if necessary while cooking
Step 4 - Mukkani Millet Falooda
- Now we have fruits puree and also our sabja seeds, millet sev are ready.Lets fill up the glass to make falooda
- Take two glasses add raw sugar / naatu sakkarai at the bottom. This is an optional step
- Add a tablespoon of sabja seeds in each glass
- Put 2 tablespoons of cooked millet semiya / sev in each glass
- Add 2 tablespoons of banana puree in each glass
- Then fill it up with jack fruit layer ie put 2 tablespoons of jack fruit puree in each glass
- Top it with mango layer - 2 tablespoons of mango puree in each glass
- Finally pour cold milk.Make sure the glass is just 3/4th filled
Now Mukkani Millet Falooda is ready.Serve it chilled
