How to cook "Brown Rice" in a pressure cooker ?

Everybody knows that brown rice is more healthier than white rice due to the fact that it is unpolished thereby retaining more nutrients
This is a basic recipe for "Beginners".The process is quite similar to cooking white rice but here soaking is important
I normally add little extra water while cooking brown rice

Ingredients
  • Brown rice - 1 cup
  • Water - 3 cups
Method
  • Wash brown rice very well and soak under 3 cups of warm water for about 1 hour
  • Do not discard the water.Use the same for cooking rice
  • Take a pressure cooker and place a stand inside it.Pour water to immerse the stand
  • Place the rice bowl / vessel over the stand
  • Fit gasket to the cooker lid and close the cooker. Now switch on the stove.Let the flame be in medium
  • Once the steam starts coming out of the small vent as seen below put the weight

  • Wait for 3 whistles to blow and then switch off the stove
  • You will be able to open the cooker only after the pressure goes down.Do not pull the cooker weight forcibly
  • Once the pressure goes down the vent will be lowere as seen in the pic
  • First take out the weight and then open the lid.You will be able to see the cooked brown rice

Serve hot.It can be mixed with sambar, rasam and even curd
