Chakodi / Rice Flour Rings / Ring Murukku

Another interesting South Indian snack. The dough used in this is same as Thattai but here we make it in circular ring shape whereas the other one is flattened discs
Eventhough the ingredients are same Iam still repeating it here

  • Rice flour - 2 cups
  • Roasted bengal gram flour / potukadalai maavu - 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chilly powder - 1 teaspoon or more
  • Hing - little
  • Sesame seeds /white ellu - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Butter - 25 g / 4 tablespoons
  • Coriander and curry leaves - little
  • Water - as needed
Please note here there is no soaked channa dhal in the recipe

  • Melt butter in a sauce pan
  • Take rice flour, roasted gram flour, ellu, hing, chilly powder and salt in a broad basin
  • Add melted butter and chopped coriander / curry leaves to it
  • Add water little by little to form a smooth dough
Step 2 - Chakodi
  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan
  • Spread a muslin cloth / zip lock cover on your counter top
  • Take small lemon sized balls and encircle it ie ring shaped.Grease your fingers while doing so
  • Carefully deep fry in oil till golden brown
  • Take it out carefully
