Simple Tamarind Thogayal

This thogayal can be prepared in a jiffy with the available ingredients at home.It can be mixed with hot rice, side dish for many tiffin items and snacks


Oil - 2 teaspoons
Mustard - 1 teaspoon
Urad Dhall - handful or less
Channa Dhall - handful or less
Red Chillies - 3 or more
Tamrind - small ball (size of a goli)
Salt - As required
Coconut Scrapings - 3 teaspoons (optional)
Water - for grinding


  1. Heat oil in a pan and season with mustard seeds.
  2. When it pops add dhalls and red chillies.Roast it till the dhalls become golden brown
  3. Also fry the tamarind ball for a second
  4. Grind the fried items with little water
  5. Add salt and run the mixer once more
  6. If needed add coconut scrapings at the end while grinding
  7. Thogayal is ready....
