The original besibelah bath recipe consists of frying and grinding of some raw ingredients to derive the masala.But here I made use of readily available masala powders in the market and hence it made my job easy

- Raw Rice - 1 1/2 cups
- Toor Dhall - 3/4 cup
- Turmeric - a pinch
- Oil - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 6 cups
- Oil - 3 tablespoons
- Mustard - 1 teaspoon
- Small Onions - 1 cup (peeled and cut)
- Sambar Powder - 1 teaspoon
- Tamrind extract - 1/2 cup
- MTR Besibelah Bath Powder - 2 teaspoons
- Coconut Powder - 1 1/2 teaspoons
- Salt - 1 1/2 teaspoons
- Hing - a pinch
- Wash rice and dhall well.Combine both of them together with the other ingredients mentioned in Section I and pressure cook for 5 whistles
- In a separate kadai heat oil splutter with mustard seeds and then saute onions in it till translucent
- Add sambar powder and pour in 1 cup of water.Allow it to boil for 5 minutes
- Extract tamarind juice - soak lemon ball sized tamarind in 1/2 cup of warm water for 15 minutes and squeeze in tamarind juice and add some more water
- Add tamarind extract to the cooked rice-dhall.Sprinkle hing.Add MTR Besibellah Bath powder,coconut powder and salt.Mix well and heat it in a low flame for 5 minutes
- Combine fried onions and rice-dhall mix.Top it with ghee if required
- Serve it with Hot Potato Curry, pappads and vadams
Variations
- Can also add chopped carrots, beans, drumstick pulp and fresh/ frozen peas
I too generally make bisi bele bath with the MTR masala powder...Nice recipe
