Tummy filling healthy breakfast.Good for diabetic people too.Since it doesn't contain onions it can be consumed during Fasting Days also
Ingredients
Part 1
- Dalia / Cracked Wheat / Samba Wheat - 2 cups
Part 2- Seasoning
- Oil - 1 tablespoon
- Mustard seeds - 3/4 teaspoon
- Channa dhal - 1 teaspoon
- Green chillies - 2 slited
- Curry leaves - few
Part 3- Vegetables
- Capsicum - one small sized
- Potato - 1 large sized
- Carrot - 2 medium sized
- Frozen or fresh peas - 1 handful
Others
- Salt - 2 teaspoons
- Water - 7-8 cups
Method
- Dry roast samba wheat on a medium flame till it emits a nice aroma.Keep it aside
- Heat oil in a kadai and splutter mustard seeds.Roast channa dhall. Put slit green chillies and curry leaves
- Add finely chopped capsicum and saute well
- Now add potato cubes, finely chopped carrot and peas.Fry for sometime in a simmer flame
- Pour 7 cups of water.Add salt and allow it to boil till the vegetables are half cooked
- Now slowly sprinkle dalia/ samba wheat by stirring continuously.Pour 1/2 cup of water
- Close the lid and let it cook.Open it for every 3 minutes sprinkle some water and swirl the whole mass
- After 12 minutes switch off the stove and let it stand for sometime
- Open the lid and garnish with coriander leaves (optional)
Hot Dalia Upma is ready.Serve hot with curd and pickle
