Vegetable Samba Wheat Upma /Vegetable Dalia Upma

Tummy filling healthy breakfast.Good for diabetic people too.Since it doesn't contain onions it can be consumed during Fasting Days also


Ingredients
Part 1
  • Dalia / Cracked Wheat / Samba Wheat - 2 cups

Part 2- Seasoning
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds - 3/4 teaspoon
  • Channa dhal - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chillies - 2 slited
  • Curry leaves - few

Part 3- Vegetables
  • Capsicum - one small sized
  • Potato - 1 large sized
  • Carrot - 2 medium sized
  • Frozen or fresh peas - 1 handful
Others
  • Salt - 2 teaspoons
  • Water - 7-8 cups
Method
  • Dry roast samba wheat on a medium flame till it emits a nice aroma.Keep it aside
  • Heat oil in a kadai and splutter mustard seeds.Roast channa dhall. Put slit green chillies and curry leaves
  • Add finely chopped capsicum and saute well
  • Now add potato cubes, finely chopped carrot and peas.Fry for sometime in a simmer flame
  • Pour 7 cups of water.Add salt and allow it to boil till the vegetables are half cooked
  • Now slowly sprinkle dalia/ samba wheat by stirring continuously.Pour 1/2 cup of water
  • Close the lid and let it cook.Open it for every 3 minutes sprinkle some water and swirl the whole mass
  • After 12 minutes switch off the stove and let it stand for sometime
  • Open the lid and garnish with coriander leaves (optional)
Hot Dalia Upma is ready.Serve hot with curd and pickle
