Oil Free Brinjal Gothsu (aka) Gravy

This recipe is similar to Baigan Ka Bartha.Here we add Tamrind to it.That's the only difference


Big Brinjal - 1
Onion - 1 (nicely chopped if needed grind it into a paste adding little water)
Tomato - 1 (optional )
Green Chillies (Silted) - 3 or more
Tamrind Water - 1 cup
Salt - 1 Teaspoon
Coriander Leaves - Garnish

  • Discard the Green Portion of the Brinjal
  • Cut the Brinjal into 2 or 3 pieces and pressure cook for 2 whistles
  • After the cooker is released wash the Brinjal under cold water
  • Peel the skin of the Brinjal (it comes out easily) and mash it well.You may blend it using a blender or mixer
  • In a Pan add Tamrind Water, Green Chillies and Onions.Heat it well
  • Add salt at this point and the Brinjal Paste.Mix well
  • Heat it for 2 minutes and garnish it with Coriander Leaves
  • This goes well with Ven Pongal
