Ingredients
- Unpolished Varagu Rice - 1 cup
- Urad Dhal - 1/4 cup
- Methi seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Varagu / Normal Poha - 1/4 cup
- Rock Salt - 1 teaspoon
Method
Step 1 - Soaking
- Wash and soak Urad dhal for 1 hour.Also put methi seeds in it
- Wash and soak Varagu Rice for 4 hours
- Wash and soak poha just for 10 minutes
Step 2 - Grinding
- First take the soaked urad dhal and methi seeds in the mixer.Add about 1/4 cup of ice cold water
- Grind it till it is soft and fluffy
- Transfer it to a big container
- In the mixer jar add the soaked varagu arisi.Pour about 1/2 cup of cold water.Grind it to a smooth batter
- Now add the soaked poha and run the mixer once again
- Now add this to urad dhal batter and mix well
- Add rock salt and mix well with hand
- Allow it to ferment overnight
- You will notice the level of batter would have raised / puffed up
Now the batter for making Varagu Idly / Dosai is ready
